Sunlit Oasis: Yoga Retreat in Marrakesh
Marrakesh, Morocco

This retreat has been designed to give you enough space and time to deepen your yoga practice, step out of your routine and reconnect with yourself in the warmth of Morocco, a land where ancient traditions and natural beauty meet.

In the foothills of Marrakesh, surrounded by desert light and olive trees, we invite you into a journey where yoga becomes a bridge back to your inner landscape.

Sam Wilson and Paloma Dorado will guide you through a blend of hatha yoga, yin yoga, yoga nidra, meditation, sound and mantras, practices that gently open the body, calm the mind, and call for deep listening.

Throughout the week, we’ll explore natural places that few travellers reach: valleys, hidden trails, local villages and the vibrant city of Marrakesh, always in a gentle, mindful way.

We will experience moments of stillness and reflection, have some space to write down our thoughts, to rest, or simply to sit under the sun and feel time slow down.

Our home for these days will be a peaceful and spacious villa with views to the mountains, with a yoga shala, a pool, hammam and Moroccan massages, where we will be nourished with fresh vegetarian meals crafted by local chefs.

Late November in Morocco is a gift: warm, golden days that invite you to live outdoors, to watch the sunset paint the nearby mountains, and reconnect with the healing power of silence and nature.

You will return home with renewed energy, a quieter mind, and practices to guide you into the winter with strength, presence and ease.

TEACHERS

Samantha Wilson (Sam)

Certified Hatha Yoga teacher and Yin Yoga teacher, with further qualifications in Indian Champissage, Ayurvedic foot massage, Reiki and Sound Gong Therapy (CMA Registered). Member of Yoga Teachers Together (YTT)

Sam is from the UK – For Sam, Yoga is about discovering self awareness through self study, ultimately bringing balance into her life and those she teaches, on and off the Yoga mat.

Sam has been teaching Yoga since 2010 and continues to develop her own knowledge. She is keen to study many aspects of health and well-being including the healing benefits of sound, which includes her working with her gongs, bells and bowls during classes, workshops and retreats in the UK and Europe.

‘My teaching is an integrated approach of body, mind, emotions and spirit and is always an inclusive space for everybody to be on their mat supporting whatever comes up for them. There are reminders of working at our own pace, without pushing beyond limits or trying to be competitive with themselves or each other.  I always communicate in a way that allows students to work in a way that feels right and nurturing for themselves’.

Paloma Dorado

Paloma started practising meditation 20 years ago, guided by a desire to understand human nature. Passionate about the relationship between science and spirituality, she studies Physical Sciences, and later, she works for the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), located in Geneva.

At the same time, she trained as a therapist in various energy techniques and therapies, and collaborates with the meditation instructor Javier de Salas as an assistant, in retreats and workshops in Spain, the United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong and Bali, including the Asia Yoga Conference and the Om Yoga Show, in London .

She immerses herself in the practice of yoga and trainned as a Sama Yoga teacher, a soft and deep style, which combines classic Hatha yoga asanas with Chi Kung postures and mantras, and as a yin yoga teacher.

Guided by her love for yoga and meditation, she founded Shama Retreats, as a conscious life project, where she shares spaces for practice, rest and connection. Nowadays, Shama Retreats, is a small company which organizes around 16 yoga and meditation retreats per year in nature, in Spain and Portugal, in collaboration with international teachers.

RETREAT VENUE

We will stay in a peaceful Moroccan boutique venue located in the Marrakesh province, a small cluster of traditional houses with wide open views towards the Atlas Mountains. It feels like arriving in a tiny village built for rest: earth-toned walls, quiet gardens, and the slow-paced rhythm of rural life all around us.

The property extends over several hectares, with pathways lined by native plants, fruit trees and panoramic terraces where silence becomes part of the scenery. At night, the sky opens into a blanket of stars; in the mornings, the first light paints the mountains in soft rose and gold.

The rooms are warm and comfortable, each with its own private bathroom, and some also offer an outdoor space where you can sit, breathe, and enjoy the stillness.

We will have two different spaces for yoga practice: an indoor yoga shala built in traditional Moroccan style, and an outdoor terrace open to fresh air and framed by mountain views. Practicing here creates a sense of spaciousness that naturally deepens your inner work.

The venue also features an outdoor swimming pool, indoor and outdoor dining areas, and a spa, where you can experience traditional Moroccan rituals such as hammam, gommage, and argan oil massage.

This retreat space is a quiet corner of Morocco where the body unwinds, the mind softens, and nature does its healing work.

How to get there?

The venue is located 50 minutes from Marrakesh city centre and airport.

There are direct and affordable flight options to Marrakesh from most European main cities.

We’ll organize a group transport from the airport to the venue, round trip, on the arrival and departure days. This transport is free of cost for participants.

EXCURSIONS

The retreat includes two guided excursion days, inviting you to connect more deeply with the land, culture, and ancient rhythms of Morocco.

We will enjoy a day tour to the Atlas Mountains, as an extension of the practice, with moments of presence, wonder, and connection beyond the mat.

We’ll explore the beautiful Ourika Valley and traditional Berber villages such as Sidi Fers and Asni, before reaching Imlil, the starting point for Mount Toubkal (4,210 m), North Africa’s highest peak. From here, we’ll enjoy a gentle walk through mountain landscapes and small villages at the foot of Toubkal, followed by lunch on a terrace overlooking the valleys and Berber hamlets below. The day will conclude with a scenic drive back to the retreat centre through the dramatic Moulay Brahim Gorges.

And because no journey to Morocco would be complete without tasting the heartbeat of its cities, we’ll also venture into the Marrakesh medina. We’ll witness a vibrant mosaic of colours, sounds and scents. It’s a sensory feast, rich, warm and unforgettable, that beautifully complements the peaceful serenity of our time in the mountains.

For those who feel called to explore further, there is the opportunity to hire a local guide for additional excursions, allowing you to follow your curiosity and adventurous spirit.

Any additional excursions are arranged at the participant’s own cost.

FAQs

We recommend flying into Marrakesh (RAK). For a smooth start, it’s ideal to arrive at least 30 minutes before the group transport, which departs at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm.

If you need to fly at a different time, please make sure you arrive at the retreat centre by 4:40 pm.

If you’d like to arrive in Marrakesh a few days earlier or stay beyond the retreat, just let us know and we’ll be happy to arrange a transfer from Marrakesh to the retreat centre. Please note that cars cannot enter the old Medina.

If your hotel is located inside the Medina, you’ll need to walk to the nearest access point, where the car can pick you up. Your hotel can advise you on the walking distance.

Just keep in mind the check-in/check-out times:

The retreat center provides mats, but they are thin and basic. We recommend bringing your own mat or a travel mat to place on top for comfort and stability.

However, you will visit Marrakesh medina on a guided day trip (included), where you can shop, explore, and enjoy the vibrant city.
If you’d like to return to Marrakesh on your own on the free afternoon, you’re welcome to do so.

The hikes in the Atlas Mountains are designed with different intensity options, and the guide will adapt the route based on the group’s needs.
If at any point you prefer not to join, you are always welcome to stay at the retreat center resting, reading, or simply enjoying the quiet.

Yes, the retreat center offers massages and hammam treatments that you can book during your stay. They’re completely optional, allowing you to add an extra layer of nourishment and relaxation to your week. You can decide day by day, shaping your experience in the way that feels best for you.
