Our Journey
Paloma Dorado, physicist and teacher of yoga and meditation, founded Shama Retreats in 2017.
“Shama Retreats was born from the profound impact that moments of calm and connection have had on my life, from my love of nature and a deep desire to share.”
I began meditating at 21, while studying physics. The practice helped me focus, appreciate moments of peace with myself, and navigate life with greater balance.
Soon after, I started attending small retreats—spaces where I could meditate in nature and give myself permission to pause.
For 15 years, I dedicated my professional career to science management at CERN and the European Commission. Alongside that path, I continued to deepen my personal practice, training in Hatha and Yin yoga, yoga philosophy, and various energy techniques. I traveled to learn and practice with international teachers who inspired me deeply.
In 2017, the desire to align my life fully with what I loved led me to create this project—a space that has grown with the support, love, and trust of many.
To date, we have shared over 90 retreats.
We’ve crossed borders—organizing retreats in Kenya, Bali, India, and Morocco—and discovered beautiful retreat spaces across Spain, Portugal, and Greece.
More than 20 teachers from around the world have joined us to guide and inspire. We’ve also hosted retreats in English, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds to learn, grow, and connect.
And we continue to trust in all the beautiful moments yet to come, and in the quiet, powerful transformation these retreats bring to each of us and the world around us.
Our Community
Our community reflects the richness and diversity of the world.
To date, over 1,200 people have joined our retreats—individuals from many nationalities, united by shared values and a desire to reconnect.
Some come to deepen their yoga and meditation practice, others to begin one. Some seek rest, connection, or time just for themselves. All come to pause and renew.
Most of our retreats feature a guest teacher—carefully chosen for their experience, depth, and the authenticity of their teaching. Each one brings their own unique voice and style, offering students fresh perspectives and personalized, enriching guidance.
