"The Way To The Heart"

A Yoga and Mantra Journey to Bali
with Kevin James, Susana Rodríguez and Paloma Dorado

This upcoming spring we’ll have the opportunity to share an unforgettable journey through Bali, the Island of the Gods.
Bali is one of the places we return to often and keep dreaming of coming back to, after hosting several retreats on the island and experiencing firsthand the profound mark it left on us.

This time we’ll explore some of the island’s most inspiring corners, combining daily mantra chanting, yoga and meditation with an immersion into Bali’s lush nature, culture, warm-hearted people, and ancient traditions. You can join us for the complete 13-day journey, or just for the first six nights in the beautiful north of the island, an option for those who may not be able to stay for the full experience.

The retreat is organized by Paloma Dorado, founder of Shama Retreats, who has organized and led a total of 120 retreats worldwide. She will guide daily yoga practices, including Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Yoga Nidra, meditation, and pranayama.
We will also be honoured to share this adventure with Kevin James and Susana Rodríguez, well-known, experienced chant leaders who share their devotional music, sound journeys, and voice meditation in chanting circles around the world.
Their sacred chants will bring moments of connection, joy, stillness and celebration to our journey.

Throughout the journey, we’ll enjoy a selection of incredible excursions in collaboration with our friends at Yatra Tours. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in Indonesia, they’ll take us beyond the usual tourist routes to experience Bali through its local communities, nature and traditions.

This retreat is open to all levels of experience, with each practice adapted to allow everyone to participate comfortably and at their own pace.

Bali is a place we return to year after year. We’re continually drawn back by its beauty, incredible food, and, above all, the devotion and warmth of its people. It feels like a place where the sacred is woven into everyday life.
We would love to share the magic of this island with you and take you to some of the places that have touched our hearts over the years. Places that, for us, represent some of the very best that Bali has to offer.” — Kevin James.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Bali in 2027 and share this extraordinary adventure together!

Why mantras?

Mantras are like a mandala in word form, reflecting harmony and beauty.

Singing and emotion are deeply interconnected. When we sing mantras, they help organise our emotions in a harmonious and beautiful way. This sense of harmony then extends to the mind and nervous system, helping us feel calmer, more balanced, and grounded, and bringing us into a state of equilibrium.

One of the main reasons chanting has such a powerful healing effect on people is because it works on us physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, at the same time.

Kevin will share his knowledge and experience to allow you to bring the practice of chanting into your daily life, as a way to help you stay connected to your heart while navigating your way to living your dream.

After more than 8 years of experience holding chanting retreats all around the world, I’ve witnessed the healing power of chanting everyday and we would love to share this experience with you. I’ve seen over and over that no matter where you are in your self-discovery path, these deeply nourishing days together will always help you get closer to your Heart.” — Kevin James

Join us for an unforgettable journey through Bali

RETREAT VENUES

Our journey through Bali will take us across some of the island’s most breathtaking landscapes: from the wilderness of Menjangan, in the far northwest, to the misty mountains of Munduk, before ending in the cultural and spiritual heart of Ubud.

We’ll stay in three carefully selected locations, each offering a different experience of the island.

The journey begins in Menjangan, a very peaceful and largely untouched corner of Bali bordering West Bali National Park. Surrounded by tropical forests, mangroves and an extraordinary marine ecosystem, this is where we’ll experience the heart of the retreat itself.

We’ll stay in a beautiful retreat center surrounded by nature and natural hot springs, and we’ll practice daily Hatha Yoga, meditation, mantra chanting and pranayama. We’ll also have time to explore West Bali National Park and Menjangan Island, and the option to snorkel or dive among its spectacular coral reefs.

From there, we’ll travel into the mountains to Munduk, staying in an astounding eco-lodge overlooking the forests and valleys of northern Bali. Here, our practice will be complemented by excursions through the surrounding countryside, with jungle trails, tropical waterfalls, volcanic lakes, secluded forest temples and local markets.

Our final destination is Ubud, Bali’s artistic, cultural and spiritual heart. We’ll stay in a charming retreat center where we could continue with our daily practices, and we’ll have time to discover its temples, markets, cafés and local culture, while enjoying the unique atmosphere that has drawn artists, seekers and yogis here for decades.

Throughout the journey, we’ll enjoy the delicious vegetarian and vegan cuisine Bali’s famous for, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Getting There

Bali has one international airport, Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, with excellent connections from Europe, Australia, and many major international hubs across Asia and the Middle East.

You’ll generally find convenient one-stop connections via hubs such as Doha, Dubai, Singapore, or Hong Kong, depending on your departure point. If you’re travelling from Australia, there are direct flights available from several cities.

Please make sure your flight arrives in Bali on March 5, before 12.00 at the latest. Airport transfers to the retreat center are included in the price. We will organize several departure times from the airport, and the journey will take approximately four hours.
If you prefer to arrive a few days earlier, please let us know and we’ll help you arrange the most convenient meeting point to join one of our transfers to the retreat center in Menjangan.

If you join us for the complete journey, please book a flight departing on March 17. We will organize three group transfers from Ubud, our final stop, to the airport at different times to accommodate participants’ departure schedules.

Before purchasing your flights, please contact us at info@shamaretreats.com to confirm your place on the retreat.

IMPORTANT

Please don’t book your flights without contacting us first.

Once you’ve found your preferred flights, please send us your itinerary and we’ll let you know when it’s the right time to book them.

This helps us coordinate everyone’s arrival and ensure everything is in place before you purchase your tickets.

RETREAT ITINERARY

Friday, 5 March 2027

Arrival in Bali – Transfer to Menjangan

Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar), we’ll meet our drivers and begin our journey northwest across the island to the peaceful region of Menjangan.

Surrounded by tropical gardens and natural hot springs, our beautiful resort will be the perfect place to unwind after the journey, settle into the rhythm of Bali, and enjoy our first evening together.

Friday, 5 March to Thursday, 11 March 2027

Retreat in Menjangan & West Bali National Park

Our retreat begins surrounded by one of Bali’s most pristine and untouched landscapes.

Located within West Bali National Park, Menjangan is renowned for its peaceful beaches, mangrove forests, extraordinary biodiversity, and some of Indonesia’s healthiest coral reefs.
Our daily yoga, meditation, and mantra practices will begin here, gently easing us into the rhythm of the retreat.

We’ll also explore this remarkable region together through carefully chosen excursions, discovering hidden corners of the national park and visiting the beautiful Menjangan Island, famous for its crystal-clear waters and spectacular marine life.

We will enjoy a snorkeling trip among colorful coral reefs, join the sacred temple ceremonies, and feel nature through some special hiking. We will also have time to relax and unwind in the resort’s natural hot springs.

Thursday, 11 March to Sunday 14 March 2027

Munduk – Mountains, Lakes & Waterfalls

We’ll then travel into the cool mountains of Munduk, one of Bali’s most authentic and least-visited regions.

Surrounded by rainforest, volcanic lakes, coffee plantations and spectacular waterfalls, this beautiful mountain sanctuary will become the heart of our retreat.

We’ll spend the next few days in a beautiful eco-lodge with a private yoga shala, where we’ll enjoy our daily classes and chanting.

Between practices, we’ll venture into the surrounding countryside to discover hidden waterfalls, hike through tropical forests, canoe across sacred mountain lakes, soak in natural hot springs, and experience local markets full of colour and Balinese tradition.

Sunday, 14 March to Wednesday 17 March 2027

Ubud – Culture, Temples & Local Cuisine

Our final destination is Ubud, Bali’s artistic and spiritual capital.

For centuries, Ubud has attracted artists, healers, musicians, and yogis from around the world, creating a unique atmosphere where tradition and creativity coexist in perfect harmony.

During our stay we’ll immerse ourselves in Balinese culture, visiting a secluded Sacred Water Temple out of the touristic and crowed most known water temples, where we’ll take part in the traditional Melukat purification ceremony—an ancient ritual using holy spring water to symbolically cleanse body, mind and spirit.

We’ll wander through emerald rice terraces, browse colorful artisan markets, enjoy some of Bali’s finest healthy cafés and restaurants.

This final stage of the journey is an invitation to celebrate everything we’ve experienced together before returning home—leaving Bali feeling inspired, grounded, and deeply renewed.

Wednesday, 17 March 2027

Departure

After breakfast, we’ll transfer to Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar) for your flight home or onward journey.

(*) Please refer to the Getting There section when planning your flights.

INTERESTED IN A SHORTER RETREAT?

We’ve designed this journey as a 13-day Bali experience, allowing you to discover three very different regions of the island while combining yoga, nature, culture, and adventure.

However, we also understand that travelling from nearby countries, particularly Australia, makes shorter trips much more accessible.

For this reason, we also offer the option of joining only the retreat portion of the experience: 5–11 March 2027.

This shorter retreat is designed for those who wish to experience the essence of the full programme.

You’ll join us in Menjangan, in the north-west of Bali, where we’ll spend 7 days/6 nights immersed in yoga, meditation, mantra music with Kevin James & Susana, nature, and community.

“What a unique experience this retreat was! Paloma is a little ray of sunshine and offered a lot of diversity in her yoga teachings. It felt truly like a release going through the different classes she has. Kevin and Susanna’s music is so healing. Chanting every day was such a beautiful experience to feel connected with the group. I highly recommend any retreat with Paloma and Kevin & Susanna if you want to reconnect to yourself and to the world around you.”
Marie B.

“I enjoyed this retreat a lot! Lovely people, fantastic food, and a beautiful venue. Special thanks to Paloma, who was taking care of all the organization, always having an eye of all the participants and our needs. Her yoga classes were exceptional, going deep, allowing us to release. Kevin and Susana were accompanying us with their amazing music and sound meditations, so we were able to express our voices freely. It was an outstanding experience I will never forget!”
Theresa W.

“Traveling with Shama Retreats is always a synonym for enjoying a good moment with your Self. Retreats are always very well organized; every single detail has been taken into consideration, and locations are always fantastic. The retreat with Kevin James has been awesome. Yes, as long as they have a regular yoga practice (even at a basic level) and are genuinely interested in the classes and the experience. This retreat is a deep, transformative experience, not just a tourist trip. If someone is only looking for sightseeing or relaxation, this journey may not be the right fit for them.

The retreat has a balanced rhythm of yoga, chanting, excursions to nature, and rest. There is space each day for reflection and relaxation, so you never feel rushed.

Participation in all classes and excursions is not mandatory; you are always welcome to rest at the accommodation if your body needs it. At the same time, the program is designed with the intention of going deeper together, day by day, through the practices and shared experiences.

The schedule is tentative, and it can be slightly changed depending on unforeseen factors. In case of changes, the meditation, yoga, and chanting practices could be prioritized over the visits or excursions.
